Italy is one of the world's most popular travel destinations and I dare say the most attractive destination for Weddings followed by other popular destinations such as France, Spain, Greece, Thailand and the USA. Having a wedding in Italy is something absolutely fantastic, the atmosphere, the food, the nice weather, having dinner at sunset under the open sky. Italy is an incredibly historic and romantic country. Do you want to have your wedding in Italy documented in an artistic and genuine way? Then you've come to the right place! What is required to get married in Italy?
Civil wedding at the municipality. It is possible to get married legally in Italy via a municipality. However, an interpreter is needed and I recommend hiring a wedding coordinator to get help with paperwork. Then you get married at the town hall with the mayor or another person. In such a case, you need to have a marriage certificate / obstacle test, an identity card with information on place of birth, marital status and your parents' names. Documents must be translated into Italian by an authorized translator and provided with an apostille stamp by a Notary Public in Sweden. Getting married at the Town Hall in Italy is subject to a fee and the fee varies from municipality to municipality.
Symbolic ceremony.Symbolic marriage is the most common type. You get married in connection with your wedding venue or at another beautiful location. To get married that way, you do not need any documents and you need to get married legally in Sweden before or after your wedding in Italy. There are several wedding coordinators and celebrants who can perform the symbolic wedding in Italy. It is common to do it that way as it does not involve any paperwork and you can have a symbolic ceremony regardless of location.
Religious blessing.Unfortunately, it is not possible to get married legally in the Church of Sweden in Rome, a Swedish priest does not have the right to marry in Italy. But it is fine to get a church blessing in the church in Rome. For that, one of you needs to be a member of the Church of Sweden and have a baptism certificate and a marriage certificate. There is also a mobile priest, a priest who starts from Frankfurt and travels throughout Europe to marry couples.
How much does a wedding cost in Italy?
The price varies just like with everything and depends on the size of the event. But count on at least SEK 1,500/cover price per person for dinner. Plus costs for all other suppliers, florist, private hire of the wedding venue, music for the wedding and party. Of course, there will be a difference if you are going to have a three-day wedding with many guests or if you are planning an elopement and just the two of you. A tip is to plan on a weekday then it is easier to get free premises and suppliers and when the season is a little lower such as September or May. It is also up to you whether you want to offer your guests accommodation or whether the guests pay themselves.

Portfolio Wedding in Tuscany
Since it is much warmer than in Sweden and it rarely rains, it is common to have both weddings and dinners under the open sky. A little depending on the season and how hot it is, I recommend having the wedding around 5 pm as it is not as hot. You can have it in connection with the wedding venue in a beautiful setting or church. It's no secret that Italy has amazing ingredients and thus an incredible food culture. It is not unusual to have pizza night the day before the wedding and Aperitivo - canapés and small dishes as a start and then have 3 courses with cake or why not have a gelato bar instead of cake. In addition, the wines grown in the vineyard are locally delicious. A great mood enhancer is live music during dinner and the party. Many wedding venues also offer experiences for your guests such as wine tastings, guided tours and truffle hunting.

Hiring a wedding coordinator
Since there can often be language barriers, miscommunication and difficulty finding all suppliers remotely , I can warmly recommend hiring a wedding coordinator. In addition, if you hire a coordinator for the whole day at the wedding, it reduces stress about everything that can go wrong and you can just enjoy the day.
